Dr. Brian Jacob is an internationally recognized hernia surgeon in New York City. For 8 consecutive years, he has been selected as one of the best hernia surgeons in NYC by The New York Times Magazine, and is listed by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. in New York Magazine as a Top Doctor (2012-2020). Over the past decade, Dr. Jacob has performed thousands of hernia procedures, and he has devoted the majority of his career to treating hernias and groin pain, with a goal of offering his patients an optimized outcome and uneventful rapid recovery. In addition to hernia and weight-loss surgeries, Dr. Jacob also performs Gallbladder Removal, Appendix Removal, Adhesion Removal, and Small Bowel Resections.

Dr. Jacob is known globally as the original surgeon who changed the game by redefining surgical education when he began using a private Facebook community to unite hernia surgeons from around the world to professionally use social media to help optimize patient outcomes. 1000s of surgeons have since created groups in all disciplines. He has published extensively about using social media to educate surgeons here and he continues to lecture about this at conferences all around the world.

An expert hernia surgeon, Dr. Jacob is extensively published and is an immediate past board member of SAGES and was on the board of the Americas Hernia Society – AHS from 2015 to 2018. He is the founder of the International Hernia Collaboration, and he is also an active participant in the AHSQC, a national hernia quality collaborative where vetted hernia surgeons optimize patient outcomes. Operating at Mount Sinai Medial Center and Midtown Surgery Center in NYC, he says, “By embracing hernia as a specialty, I can truly help the greatest number of patients. Publications

In addition to operating, Dr. Jacob is the author and co-author of numerous book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals on topics that include robotic surgery as well as the first series of single incision laparoscopic TEP inguinal hernia repairs in the USA. He recently co-edited The SAGES Manual on Hernia Repair, a hernia textbook devoted to hernia repair and The SAGES Manual on Groin Pain, the only single resource covering the entire spectrum of groin pain.

Organizations

Recently he founded The International Hernia Collaboration, Inc and is the current President of this international hernia organization. He was recognized by Facebook (TM) for his global effort to revolutionize the way hernia surgeons collaborate with each other by starting a Facebook group under the same name.
